Ok so I just got back and checked my email and I had this video from youtube that I just had to share with everyone. Ronald Jenkees (Ya exactly, who?) is jamming on the keys with a hipped out guitar sound. I don't know about you, but I would love to see a few of my favorite rappers spit to this beat...the dude looks real goofy, but he's definitely talented...check em out...also, big ups to my boy Evan for getting me this...

Atmosphere - Guarantees + You + Not Today (All Acoustic Versions)
If ya didnt already know anything that I find from Atmosphere must and will be posted...slug in my opinion, top 5 lyricist of all time. This is Slug on 90.3 KEXP chatting it up and performing three acoustic versions of his songs, Guarantees, You and Not Today. I went ahead and helped yall out by taking the songs, individually breaking em down and posting them on zshare for you, your welcome. Also I included the entire half hour segment for those of you that are as big of Atmosphere fans as I am...its actually a pretty solid interview...even tho I dont think the dj new "ish" about hip hop or Atmosphere, but I had just had to hear what Slug had to say...

Nas - Hero + Black President
Two new tracks from Mr. Jones...Hero, is from Nas' upcoming album which is rumored to have been pushed back to July 15th now. Everywhere I go people are not vibing with this single, but I'm have to say that I am digging it...give it a listen. Black President is about...you guessed it...supposedly Nas ripped this song from Christina K, but either way Nas' version is much better.

ALBUM REVIEW: Lyrics Born - Everywhere At Once
Lyrics Born has one the most unique flows in the game today. Both his voice and his delivery stand out in a mostly watered down game we call hip hop. Lyrics Born has style that grows on you everytime you give his album a spin. The album started off nicely with a George Clinton meets hip hop sound on the song Don't Change. A funked out westcoast beat with a smooth melody (gotta love those horns). Differences, Track 4, was by far the highlight of this album for me. A smooth beat with dope lyrics, a track the fellas can cruise to and the ladies can sing to. For me when the album started to become a little played out was towards the middle, when it became a little to strange. It recovered nicely at the end with Wispers, a smooth soul sounding track and on the Let Me In, Let Me Out (Remix) to end the album. Let Me In, Let Me Out (Remix) uses a hard guitar sound to add a little rock feel to the album. That is the thing about Lyrics, he is not afraid to step outside the usually boundaries of hip hop, and for me that is the positive and the negative of this album. He tries new styles and for some tracks worked well, but for some he tried a little too hard and left me thinking maybe if he were a little more conventional the album would have been a little bit better. I don't think this was one of his best efforts, but is still worth a listen. I love his delivery and ability to cross genres and step out of traditional hip hop, but at times I feel that is also what is holding him back from making a true classic album. ALBUM RATING
7 out of 10
Dwele - Im Cheatin
The first single of Dwele's upcoming album which will be released on June 24th. If your thinking the dude sounds familiar you are right...he is the kat from Kanye's Flashing Lights. R&B with me is hit or miss, but I'm liking this song...
Blu - Departing Flights, The Classy Man, Up All Night
Is it me or does it seem like Blu is dropping new tracks everyday? Well...he is offering a free download once a month from his myspace page, so close. Here are 3 recently released tracks...Departing Flights is fire. If you don't know of Blu and you consider yourself hip hop then either you have been in a coma the past year or you don't got much underground music...Below the Heavens was one of the best hip hop albums of 2007...check em out...

PRODUCER'S PICK
Every so often I will add a song/video that I feel represents hip hop music in a positive light. To me this song represents power through positivity. Tonedeff is the founding member of QN5 Music and this is my favorite song that he performs. The song title is Optimist...remember "Don't imagine a tragic end to the book when there's not/you gotta try and rewrite inspite of how crooked the plot." Life is wonderful!
Everliven Sound - So Cruel
I just came across this video. I have yet to give their new album, Freedom, a spin, but if the whole album has the soulful sound and meaningful lyrics of this track then it could be a hidden gem.

Hillary Clinton Refuses to Acknowledge Defeat
I know many people don't want to read about politics on a hip hop site, but come on people open your minds. With everything going on around the world it is time for us all to step up and get involved. And this is my blog...so I am going to take this spot to talk about the always intriguing Democratic Presidential Race. With Obama recently announcing his victory Hillary Clinton has yet to withdraw from the race. It has been speculated that whoever you support this is ultimately hurting the democratic party, but I say is it? How does the old saying go, there is no such thing as bad publicity? While McCain is in the clear with the Republican nomination he is receiving almost zero attention on the national stage. Every discussion or blog is about Obama vs. Hillary, and I believe that the constant discussion is only helping Barack get his issues out and will help to sway a few votes in his direction come November. Lets be honest here, both candidates have 5 more months to belittle each other, raise more money and try to convince us that they are what is good for this country. Barack will be the republican candidate whether it is official tomorrow or next week, it will be soon enough and for the next 5 months we will bombarded with every form of personal attacks. So I hope that we the people will elect a candidate based on what they stand for. If you want change you have to stand up for it. ~One Love
